Trusting God

"Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct Him?
He that reproveth God, let him answer it." (Job 40:2)

It has been a real privilege to talk to people who call after our radio program. Many of them have questions or comments about what they have just heard. In talking to a young man recently, I noticed that he had a real problem understanding "God’s indifference," as he put it, to the evil, hunger, pain...etc. that he saw all around him.

All of our problems, sins, heartache, pain, and evil, etc. started in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve chose to believe Satan, whom they met for the first time, instead of God, whom they knew from the beginning, having sweet fellowship with Him daily. One of the saddest truths, about human beings in general is that we are so quick to give sinful man a hearing instead of God. The Lord said, "I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive Me not; if another shall come in his own name, him you shall receive."

One of the greatest helps the believer has in trusting God is to be cognizant of His attributes. The more we learn about God as we study His Word, the more amazed we are that we, who are born sinners, would question His dealings with the human race. When we are conscious of our own sinful nature, and learn about the attributes of God and His will for every one on earth, we marvel that He would save any of us! In a study of His attributes, I read that no one has considered all of them because they are endless.

My friend, God has made a perfect provision for all of us, but He will not force us to receive it. All who trust His Son as their Savior, and believe that He paid for all their sins - past, present, and future - by taking their place on the cross, are born again. The precious truth is that He didn’t stop there. He made them joint heirs with His Son and gave them His perfect righteousness and eternal life. In all the years of our ministry, we have yet to see a spiritual need that He has not met.

So many people blame God for everything! Recently a woman was interviewed on one of the talk shows about her feelings when she learned that her son was dying of AIDS. She confessed how angry she was with God for allowing this to happen to her son. We expect the world to be deceived about the nature of God, but how tragic when we hear a believer (without doctrine) is thinking, if not verbally stating, the same thing.

Two things we should remember: Life is not fair, and God is just, and is always fair. He has no favorites! There is nothing that we can do to make brownie points with Him. His Son made all the brownie points we needed when He took our place on the cross. The only answer to anyone who doubts His love for all human beings is to point them to the cross. None can stand before Him and say that they did not accept His free gift, His beloved Son, because He failed to correct the wrongs in Satan’s world. The only thing that we can be certain about is that God does not make mistakes, and that His display of grace to lost sinners, His enemies who all deserved eternal punishment, is the best way.

In conclusion, the more we are knowledgeable about our God and His love for us in not even sparing His own Son, but delivering Him up for our sins, the more we will love Him. He is the only One who can be fully trusted to always be just in His dealings with all human beings. He has never promised that we will understand everything that transpires here on earth, but we are encouraged to trust Him, and He alone is trustworthy.
